Michael’s Finer Meats and Seafoods began in 1962 as a part-time job for our founder, Michael Bloch, son of a Chicago meatpacking superintendent. His father regularly sent him shipments of selected cuts of meat. Michael picked them up at a trucking terminal in Columbus and delivered them by car to fine chefs all around the city. Michael soon left his regular job with a paper company and in 1966 bought The Union Meat Company. This became our company, Michael’s Finer Meats.
From the beginning, we served
many of the top Columbus restaurants and steakhouses. These included such
1960s landmarks as Tommy Henrich’s, Benny
Klein’s, Marzetti’s, the Jai-Alai,
The Clarmont and Maramor. Michael’s
still serves the area’s finest restaurants and foodservice customers.
We have also expanded across Ohio and into more than a dozen other states.
Over time we have evolved into a full-line, “center-of-the-plate”
meat, seafood and specialty foods company. We also offer gift-box
and retail sales programs for
consumers who want to enjoy restaurant-quality dining at home.
